Liberty appoints Towler to Aviation Reinsurance divison

12 June 2017, LONDON – Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Hans Towler to the Aviation Reinsurance team.

Based in LSM’s London headquarters, Hans will report to Dieter Winkel, LSM’s chief underwriting officer – reinsurance. He will initially work alongside Chris Rudd, Head of Aviation Reinsurance, who has led the division since 2001. When Chris retires next March, Hans will assume full responsibility for the division.

Dieter Winkel said: “Hans is a highly experienced and talented leader with considerable experience of aviation reinsurance. His knowledge and strategic insight will ensure the division continues to perform successfully.”

Hans has held senior roles in the London aviation reinsurance market for over thirty years. His most recent role was at Willis, where he spent seven years as a member of the senior management team of the Aviation Treaty Division. Hans originally joined Willis in 1985. His 13 years there were spent mainly in the aviation excess of loss team, finishing as MD of the division. Before re-joining Willis, he spent the next eleven years at Benfield where he also specialised in aviation and space reinsurance.
