Liberty appoints general manager for US Reinsurance operation

11 July 2016, LONDON – Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed James D’Onofrio as General Manager of its US reinsurance operation. He will be based in Stamford, Connecticut reporting to Dieter Winkel, LSM’s Chief Underwriting Officer – Reinsurance.

D’Onofrio takes over from Michael Finnegan, who has taken on a new role in Liberty. D’Onofrio has worked in the insurance sector for over 25 years, joining LSM from Swiss Re America where he was Senior Vice President – Head of Casualty – SRUA (Swiss Re Underwriters Agency). Prior to this, he was Managing Director of Arch Reinsurance Company. He has also held senior positions with Gerling Global, AXA Reinsurance and Endurance Reinsurance.

Dieter Winkel commented: “Jim will play a key role in LSM’s business. His diverse experience with large organisations in the US reinsurance market will contribute towards the success and growth of our US reinsurance operation.”

LSM’s reinsurance division in the US has a team of 35 operating out of Stamford and Boston. It underwrites a broad range of treaty reinsurance business.
