We hold a Writing Partners programme, which involves volunteers being paired with pupils and receiving letters from them fortnightly. Writing Partners sessions are held weekly at a school, one week pupils read their letters and the other week they write their replies. Each volunteer writes to their pupil over one term.

I found it very rewarding participating in Writing Partners. My writing partner’s letters were priceless and very neat. He was in the last year of primary school and asked for my opinion on lots of different things. I can’t wait to do it again in September
The Writing Partners Programme has made a great addition to my work schedule. Receiving scheduled letters from students at the local school is a really positive way to punctuate the week! Over the course of the programme, and through a very modest time commitment, I feel I’ve come to know the students really well – you can really sense the amount of attention the students put into their letters. A particular highlight for me was receiving a very tricky riddle that I had to solve before my next letter was due! Thanks to everyone who facilitated the programme
The children have loved writing letters and learning to communicate effectively through writing. They have enjoyed talking to people with vastly different life experiences, yet still finding common ground. One child, a reluctant mathematician, chose to explain a concept she had been struggling with. I was stunned when I saw it.
