The dual demand of the market
For years, the insurance market has been moving in two directions that coexist yet generate constant tension.
On one hand, digitalisation, competitive pressure, and the pursuit of efficiency are driving faster, simpler processes. For small and medium-sized enterprises in particular, speed, clarity, and ease of access have become baseline expectations.
On the other hand, the risks faced by organisations are growing increasingly complex. The emergence of cyber threats, climate events, geopolitical uncertainty, regulatory evolution, and the growing internationalisation of businesses demand decisions in far more challenging environments.
"Companies are no longer simply looking for insurance products. They need solutions that support their growth and help them operate safely in increasingly complex environments. Differentiation can no longer be based solely on price or process simplification, but on the ability to bring knowledge, technical expertise, and specialist advisory," explains Macarena García.
The strength of a multi-specialist model
In this context, Liberty Specialty Markets is committed to a multi-specialist approach. The objective is to combine deep specialisation in specific areas with a broad view of risk — something increasingly important for clients whose needs span multiple areas of exposure.
"Our objective is to make specialisation accessible at greater scale, without diluting its value," says Macarena García.
This approach brings together capabilities across areas such as Liability, Financial Lines, and Cyber, offering solutions tailored to companies of different sizes and stages of development. The key is not to oversimplify, but to make specialist knowledge more accessible, understandable, and useful for brokers and clients.
A strategy backed by Invest in Europe
This vision is aligned with Invest in Europe, the group's strategic plan to strengthen its position as the benchmark specialist insurer in Europe and to continue driving profitable and sustainable growth.
This ambition is delivered through several complementary distribution channels:
- Coverholders/MGAs — Historically positioned on niche segments through wholesalers and specialist brokers, they now enable Liberty Specialty Markets to expand its ability to serve the SME segment, drawing on a deep knowledge of specialty markets.
- The digital platform — the central pillar of the strategy, designed to streamline client processes, accelerate decision-making timelines, and make products accessible to a wider range of intermediaries.
- Open market — the company's longstanding positioning, maintaining an agile and specialist approach in direct contact with client needs.
The combination of these models allows Liberty to stay close to brokers and clients while broadening access to specialist solutions.
Focus: a digital platform for specialist risks
Digitalisation is one of the key drivers of this strategy. Within this framework, Liberty Specialty Markets has developed a new digital quoting platform for Directors' & Officers' (D&O) liability risks.
What sets this approach apart is that, while most market tools are designed for simple, standard risks, Liberty Specialty Markets has chosen to prioritise specialisation, building its approach from the outset around the specificities of complex risks.
The platform offers automated quotes for D&O risks of unlisted companies that meet the eligibility criteria, with turnover of up to €500 million, giving brokers rapid access to broader and more complex risks, always subject to applicable underwriting criteria. Furthermore, in line with this commitment to adding value, the platform allows brokers — where the risk meets the requirements — to access the INTEGRAL product, which combines D&O, Fraud, and Employment Practices Liability coverage.
"In a highly competitive market, the ability to provide a fast quote and bind business efficiently represents a significant advantage for brokers and their clients," highlights Silvia Valenzuela, Head of D&O Commercial in Spain.
Built on a modular architecture, the platform digitally translates Liberty Specialty Markets' underwriting expertise, with the flexibility to adapt to different markets. Designed from the outset to be scalable, it is set to be deployed across Europe and extended to other specialty lines.
The initiative reflects Liberty Specialty Markets' commitment to combining digital innovation and underwriting expertise to help brokers serve a greater number of clients more efficiently, without compromising the technical rigour that defines Liberty Specialty Markets.
Anticipating tomorrow's needs
Expectations will continue to evolve around three key areas: firstly, more refined personalisation of offerings, including in the digital space; secondly, greater responsiveness and fluidity in commercial interactions; and finally, strategic support that goes well beyond the insurance product itself.
To meet these needs, Liberty Specialty Markets continues to invest in technology, data, and talent development, with the aim of maintaining a high level of advisory and specialisation.
A long-term vision
"Our strategy takes a long-term view," concludes Macarena García. "The challenge is not just to grow, but to do so sustainably, profitably, and in a way that differentiates us. With technical expertise, distribution innovation, and proximity with our partners, Liberty Specialty Markets aspires to become a benchmark in its segments."
