stair art piece

This artwork is a drawing with wire. It is made with mild steel and in time it will rust. Rusting metal marks a sense of time and causality and reality. While making it, I ‘eroded’ the wire to add fragility and take away the sense of a fabricated structure.

A staircase is a transitional space that leads you from one place to another, it helps to navigate life, however this staircase is neither leading nor landing on any place. The shadow enhances the fragility and it looks like a phantom of a phantom, drawing the eyes into a loop.

Bachelard writes in ‘ The Poetics of Space’ that in miniature representations we project our images and “Values become condensed and enriched”. We relate to miniatures as architectural spaces but in order to enter in their domain of imagination, we are forced to cross a threshold of absurdity and freedom.
