Our strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework is divided into three themes, helping us to focus our activities on three community-based issues where we believe we can make a difference. Our CSR initiatives are focussed on projects where we live and work, and in the developing world that:

  • Improve education and employment outcomes
  • Provide food and shelter for those in need
  • Advance health and wellbeing

These projects need to deliver tangible long term benefits.

Our communities

We have a global partnership with WaterAid, an international organisation whose mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

We launched our partnership with WaterAid in 2015 and have since supported two ambitious and potentially life-changing projects. The first, in Madagascar, reached remote rural communities with water, toilets and hygiene education. The current project, located in Rwanda, aims to give almost 80,000 school children access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene by 2021.

Our employees support WaterAid by getting involved in a range of fundraising events including marathon runs and adventure treks.

In addition to our global charity partner, each office supports their own local charity cause(s).

Serve with Liberty

‘Serve with Liberty’ is our annual Liberty Mutual initiative, encouraging all staff globally to take part in volunteering projects and get involved in a range of practical tasks and skills-based opportunities.

In 2019, 670 Liberty Specialty Markets employees from our offices around the world dedicated their time to contribute to 64 projects.

LSM Art Award

In partnership with The Slade School of Fine Art and The Art Academy, we are supporting 7 artists in this inaugural year. Graduates are paid to display their work in our London office at 20 Fenchurch Street for one year, and works are available to purchase via an online auction.

Crucially, the project also incorporates a development programme for the artists, including training sessions, mentoring and workshops. This is in line with our approach to equip the artists with commercial skills with which to build a sustainable career.

Local partnerships in United States

On April 3rd, Mathew Moore, LSM President & Managing Director, announced additional corporate donation funding across our operations. One of Liberty’s core values is to put people first and make a difference.

LSM West received £30,000 and the funds were split between LatAm, LSM US & Bermuda. As we all know, the Covid-19 pandemic has wrought havoc globally. These donations will have a great impact on our respective communities.

Donations in LSM US

World Central Kitchen - WCK is working across America to distribute individually packaged, fresh meals safely in communities that need support – for children and families to pick up and take home, as well as delivery to seniors who cannot venture outside. https://wck.org/chefsforamerica

NYC food bank - During this COVID-19 pandemic, Food Bank is taking proactive steps to provide food and other resources safely for the New Yorkers who rely on us. As the city’s leading hunger-relief organization, we provide emergency food to vulnerable New Yorkers who may be quarantined, along with those impacted by the economic downturn. https://www.foodbanknyc.org/

God’s Love We Deliver - Clients are at the greatest risk for COVID-19, many being elderly and all living with underlying conditions and severe illness that make them especially susceptible to the coronavirus. https://www.glwd.org/

Thoroughbred Charities of America - Provide support to a lot of different equine charities, but currently have an emphasis on employees at racetracks (“backstretch workers”). These are low income jobs for people living in cramped and poor housing conditions, so they are especially vulnerable to the current pandemic. https://www.tca.org/

Bundles of Joy - Bundles of Joy New York is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides essentials to babies, toddlers and new parents in critical need. http://www.bundlesofjoyny.org/
