Who we are?

Liberty Specialty Markets is part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, a leading global insurer. We offer a breadth of world-class insurance and reinsurance services to brokers and insureds in all major markets. Established in 2013, bringing together Liberty’s company, syndicate and reinsurance operations into one combined operation of over 1,800 people, over 50 specialty and commercial insurance and reinsurance products and four underwriting platforms.

About the Team:

Liberty Mutual Re is the reinsurance entity of the group, with three main offices: London (UK), Paris (France) and Cologne (Germany). The Paris office started in 2017 to underwrite casualty risks, initially through the French motor line of business, in order to propose to its client a wider range of services.

In the continuity of this portfolio development, the actuarial team is looking for a 6-months internship to support the enhancement and modernization of the actuarial pricing tools for the casualty branch.

About the Role:

Risk acceptance requires a risk quantification. This is basically performed using pricing tools which embeds actuarial methodologies. Actuarial methodologies mainly rely on statistics/stochastic algorithms.

Due to the development of its casualty activity, the Paris office plan to enhance and modernize his set of inhouse actuarial tools. The intern will participate to this development and will have for instance to:
  • Understand the current approaches.
  • Implement a server/UI mechanism, available internally by a browser client, using the R/Shiny technology.
  • Be proactive on the underlying technologies, interface and ergonomics.
  • Participate to the actuarial R&D and models calibration.

What the ideal candidate will have:

  • Bac +5 student from an Application Development, Engineering, Actuarial or Statistical degree.
  • Proficient in R (or Python).
  • Common statistical skills.
  • Strong appetite for coding.
  • Scientific curiosity, proactive, critical mind.
  • Fluent in French, good level in English.
